Electronic Classroom have been replaced with new equipment. Please read
over these updated instructions for the room as we've both simplified
things and made some changes to the controls. We have removed the
control panel from the Instructors desk for the time being. It did not
interface well with the new projector and would require some costly
reprogramming to be made fully functional. If the functionality is
determined to be essential to the use of the room, we can examine
restoring it. We have a couple more enhancements planned, but things
are now completely functional.
I'd suggest anyone teaching in the room go in a few days ahead of time
to confirm things function as you expect. If you find problems, please
alert the Helpdesk. I'll post these instructions on Staffweb and a copy
is in the room.
Please contact me with any questions.

Goldstein Classroom Technology Instructions

Using the Video Projector
There is a remote control that lives on the instructor’s desk in
Goldstein. It is a small white NEC. Press the green “ON” button on
the upper right corner to turn on the projector. The projector takes
between 30 seconds and a minute to warm up. If the instructor’s
computer is turned on you should see the desktop appear after the warm
up cycle is complete. If you only see a blue screen that means no input
signal is present and the computer is probably turned off. When done,
please turn off the projector using the remote. Hit the “OFF” key in
the upper left corner. The projector will put a confirmation message
asking if you are sure. Hit the “OFF” key again.
Using the Instructor’s computer
The instructor’s computer is located in the cabinet of the instructor’s
desk. The power button is in the middle of the front. No lights means
the computer is off. Green lights mean the computer is on.
Logging on to the Computers
All of the computers can be accessed by logging on using Pennkey
credentials. Follow these guidelines:
UserID:
Password:
Authenticate To: UPENN.EDU (Kerberos Realm)
Logging on in this way gives access to most applications on the computer.
If you are a Library staff member and wish to access Library specific
applications, please contact the Helpdesk for specific logon credentials
to use. An alternate account is available that gives access to Library
applications and a less restricted desktop.
Changing the Volume
Use the volume control on the computer desktop. It is located on the
taskbar in the lower right corner of the desktop. Click the speaker
icon once with the left mouse button. Adjust the slider to get the
desired volume. Click away from the slider to close the volume control.
The screen
Directly behind the Instructors desk is a wall mounted control. Press
the arrow keys to raise or lower the screen as needed.
The lights
The room has several different preset lighting choices. The control is
to the left of the door when you enter the room. Try the different
options until you find the one appropriate to your event. The projector
image is visible under all lighting conditions, but is mildly washed out
under full light.
