Printers

During the winter break we performed an upgrade to the public printing
infrastructure used throughout the Libraries. We upgraded so we could
implement some new features and security improvements and to maintain
version compatibility with other installations on campus.

We are activating the following changes effective today.

1. Printing rates are going down. The price for a single sided black
and white page is now $.07. The price for a single sided color page is
now $.28. The price for a 2 sided (duplex) black and white page is now
$.10.

2. Duplex printing is now available in the following locations:

One printer in Vanpelt Electronic Lookup Center
One printer in VanPelt WIC
One printer in Lippincott Library
Vet Library

3. In the duplex locations, public workstations now have one printer
for single sided jobs, and another one for duplex jobs. The names
follow the following syntax. XXXX = Library Location:

XXXX_LIB_BW : black and white queue
XXXX_LIB_COLOR : color queue
XXXX_LIB_DUPLEX : duplex queue

4. When sending a job, patrons now need to enter a one time use
username and password along with the job name. While slightly
cumbersome, this was important to students so as to ensure only the
owner can print out their own jobs. To release a job, patrons will
swipe their card, identify their job, hit print, then enter their

5. Beginning later today, users will be able to download easy to use
installers from our website that will enable them to print to our
printers directly from their own computers; either Windows or Macs. I
will send out a link when it is ready for the public.

6. In VanPelt, all black and white jobs sent from any public computer
in the building wil be available at any release station in the building.
